Arash Usmanee Scheduled for two Fights this Spring

NABA super featherweight champion and Canadian Boxiana Western region lightweight champion Arash Usmanee is gearing up for a busy spring. This Red Deer, Alberta, native is set to take on Mexico City's Aldo Valtierra on the undercard of GYM Promotions' Lemieux-Rubio card on April 8, at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. Just over a month later, on May 14, Usmanee will fight in his hometown against an opponent TBA.

Who is Aldo Valtierre?
Aldo Valtierre will be the most experienced opponent Usmanee has faced to date, both in terms of overall fights and quality of opposition. He's fought thirty-eight times, which is one more contest than Pedro Naverette had coming into his NABA super featherweight title match with Usmanee back in December of 2010. More importantly, Valtierre has been in the ring with some seriously tough customers. He has fought to a loss and a no contest against top super featherweight contender Rogers Mtagwa, who that long ago pushed the then WBO super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (now WBO featherweight champ) to the brink, losing a controversial decision. Prior to the Mtagwa contests, Valtierre fought and lost to Jason Litzau, who recently scored a virtually unfathomable upset over Celestino Caballero. Last but not least, Valtierre fought and lost to current IBF lightweight champion of the world Miguel Vazquez, who recently defeated the highly touted Australian prospect Leonardo Zappavigna.

Can Usmanee Defeat Valiterre?
Yes. Mtagwa, though fighting at a high level, is a wild punching, easy to hit opponent. The fact that Valiterre couldn't get a win in either of his two contests with Mtagwa raises questions in my mind regarding his skill level. Mtagwa is always there to be hit. Usmanee, on the other hand, has proven to be a skillful, patient boxer. His guard is sound and he doesn't take unnecessary punches. Against WIllshaun Boxley, Usmnanee faced a relentless torrent of punches, but kept his composure and won the unanimous decision with clever boxing and skillful defense. That being said, Usmanee also possesses enough power to put an opponent to the canvas, having scored knockouts in six of his eleven victories. One way or another, Usmanee will defeat Valiterre.
